A Message From Fr. Mike Straley

05-21-2023Weekly ReflectionFr. Mike Straley

Howdy,

I am sure I do not need to tell you that inflation has hit us all fairly hard. Because we have been working on pledges for the rectory, I have been hesitant to talk more about money. Also, because you have been consistently generous to the parish. Having said that, the Finance Council has been discussing next year’s budget and things look to be difficult. In fact, the Finance Council is sending members to the Parish Council meeting to discuss this with them. With summer approaching and many of you will be leaving for a good part of the summer, I need to ask you now to please remember your home parish, even when you are away.

It is good when you visit another parish to leave an offering, but remember that we depend on your regular donation to pay the bills, even when you are away. Some of you use Faith Direct as your way to tithe to St. Bernard, but often your tithe does not change from year to year as costs continue to rise. Most parishioners also regularly give the same amount every Sunday or every month without thinking of inflation.

Please know that I am extremely grateful for your generosity in the past, especially during Covid times. I do want to leave you and Fr. Fred in a good place when I leave, so I am asking for your prayerful consideration in increasing your regular tithe if that is possible.

May God continue to bless us all,

Fr. Mike
